Mr Nic
Humanities Teaching Specialist

An MOE-trained educator and Geography specialist by training, Mr Kor emphasises mastery-oriented learning augmented with technology. Graduating with a double-major Bachelor of Arts (Geography and Education) [Distinction], he has harnessed his passion for current affairs and understanding the world geographically since his university days. He organised the inaugural NIE Current Affairs Forum in 2019 to bring about a vision of cultivating global-minded teachers who understand multiple perspectives across space and place.

In the classroom, Mr Kor has deployed both pedagogy and technology to bring about a student-focused and self-paced approach to learning, which is essential for achieving mastery. A believer in differentiated instruction, his lessons support students with different profiles. For example, a lesson could consist of both general and specific help resources that meet his students where they are at individually, rather than teaching to the middle. He also helps students succeed by building good teacher-student relationships, which builds trust and makes customising learning more effective.

His Humanities lessons deploy a range of multimodal resources that engage students in authentic learning. This also helps them to visualise concepts, in turn understanding that both human and natural processes in the world are uneven across space and place. To deepen mastery, his approach includes practice-oriented teaching and learning. This focuses on mastering skills in terms of both subject-specific skills (such as explaining trends or evaluating sources) and answering techniques that are essential for success.

In his spare time, he may be found writing introspective pieces or running laps around Marina Bay in his quest for achieving mastery in the art of long-distance running.
